Plasma TV -- Mother of All RFI Producers

As I'm getting ready to purchase a new TV in the next few weeks, and recalling what Rich, KB9RNO had said about the plasma screen TV he purchased, I thought I'd look in to TV's and RFI. I think I'll be buying a LCD screen TV.

New Softrock --- for 2 meters!

From Bill, K0AWU:

Hi Guys

For those of you that attended MUD08, you know that I was hinting at a new Softrock development. Well the cat is out of the bag. Now in Beta tests are plug-in converters one for 2m and the other for 6m for the V9 Softrock receiver. I built and have running the 2m converter today. With the ARR 2m preamp that I use here, the combination is within 2db of the best system in the shack for weak signal recovery.

SPAR Announces Winter Field Day 2009

Field Day is perhaps the most popular of the many activities enjoyed by Amateurs. Every June the bands come alive with improvised signals proving the ability to respond to emergencies. The event also offers an opportunity for camaraderie and a chance to test ourselves in less than ideal circumstances, however, emergencies and natural disasters don't always happen in the summer. Winter winds, icy limbs and bitter cold replace the thunderstorms and blistering heat of summer.

Skywarn Recognition day at NWS La Crosse WX9ARX

Posted to the LaCrosse Hams email list by Todd Shea:

"Yes - our agency will again be hosting SKYWARN Recognition Day which is actually more designed to thank the amateur radio community for all their help and support. I have already been discussing some of the setup details with local clubs and operators but it sounds like we will have a station setup that Friday/Saturday. Anyone is welcome to help out or stop by the office that day. (Last year we had our first winter storm of the season that prompted us to cancel our involvement.)
